FAQ

Where are you based?

I live in East-Central London, and throughout the planning process, I'm open to in-person meetings with couples throughout the South East of England. For those farther away, I'm readily available for video calls.

I'm more than willing to journey to your chosen wedding venue, wherever it may be!

Where can we get married?

Anywhere! That’s the beauty of Humanist ceremonies, any venue can hold your special day. This can range from the large - think castles and stately homes, to your local pub, or back garden! Ceremonies outside and in all weathers are possible, my wellies and rain coat will be at the ready!

How do I book you?

First, lets arrange your free consultation call, to make sure we are the right fit, and I am available for your planned wedding date.   Please use the contact form on the next tab, or send me an email to lianna.rose@humanistceremonies.org.uk

After this if you decide to book me, I'll ask for a deposit to secure your date in my calendar and make sure it's not offered to anyone else.

How much does it cost?

I charge £800 for weddings in 2023, and £850 for weddings in 2024, plus any additional travel and accommodation if required outside of London.

Do you do destination weddings?

Absolutely! If you would like to discuss further please let me know and we can work out a custom quote.

Can we do something unique during the ceremony?

Yes! Each ceremony is collaboratively crafted and will be tailored, reflecting your bespoke story and vision.  I will bring a bunch of ideas into our planning sessions, and anything special that you have in mind we will incorporate, to make your ceremony as unique as your love story.

There's a wealth of symbolic actions to personalise your ceremony, from ancient handfasting and sand blending to ring warming and sealing love letters in a wine box. Additionally, for couples of multiple faiths  and heritages, infusing traditional cultural rituals like the Chinese tea ceremony or the Jewish tradition of glass-smashing can also be incorporated.

Do I have to be humanist to have a humanist wedding?

The short answer is no. If you're looking for a personalised, non-religious ceremony that celebrates your unique relationship, a humanist wedding might be just what you're looking for.

A humanist ceremony is also great for couples of multiple faiths and heritages.

It is completely up to you how much or how little content about about humanism you would like included in the ceremony.

How can I make my wedding legal?

If you're considering a humanist wedding in the UK, you might have some questions about its legal standing. Here's a quick breakdown: Humanist weddings are legally recognised in Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Jersey, and Guernsey. However, they currently lack legal recognition in England and Wales. But don't worry – our organisation, Humanists UK, is pushing for change.

To ensure your marriage is legally binding in England and Wales, you'll need to have a separate marriage registration at your local registry office, which usually costs around £50 (though prices might differ). This "statutory ceremony" is swift, typically lasting just 10-15 minutes for the paperwork.

A popular approach among couples is to complete this registration a few days or even a week before their main wedding day. It means the legal aspects are squared away, allowing them to fully immerse in the joy, vows, and celebrations of their humanist ceremony.
